Onboard Investors

With an offering in place, the next step is to set up the investors who will subscribe to it. Every investor, whether a single person, a couple, or a trust, is built from the same three records: parties, an account, and links between them. This section explains those records and walks through each investor type.

An account can have several links, for example two individual owners on a joint account, or an entity plus the people who control it.

Links always start from an account (firstEntryType is Account) and point to the related record:

  • relatedEntryType: IndivACParty (an individual party), EntityACParty (an entity party), or Account (another account).
  • linkType: the relationship. Valid values are owner, secondary, manager, member, officer, director, spouse, beneficiary, trustee, custodian, parentco, subsidiary, other, acgroup, advisor, attorney, and proxy. Any other value is rejected.
  • primary_value: set to 1 on the link to the individual party who signs for the account and receives subscription documents. An account can have only one primary party, and it must be an individual party.

The account type is stored as submitted; the API does not validate it against a list. The values in createAccount are the expected conventions.

Verification Happens Next

Creating a party does not verify it. KYC/AML, suitability, and accreditation are covered in the next step, Qualify Investors. The parties and account you create here are the inputs to those checks.

Confirming Creation

Each create call returns the new record's ID in its response. If you registered webhooks in Register Webhooks, createParty, createAccount, and createLink also send a webhook; createEntity does not. See Webhooks for the payloads. To read a record back later, use GET /v3/parties, GET /v3/accounts, and GET /v3/links.
